Rinse is a San Francisco based on demand laundry and dry cleaning pickup and delivery company founded in 2013 by Ajay Prakash and James Joun. Backed by $70M+ in venture funding from investors including LG Electronics, Javelin Venture Partners, and Arena Ventures, Rinse operates across 12+ major US and Canadian cities including San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, Austin, Toronto, and Washington D.C. Featured in Forbes, TechCrunch, BBC, CNN, and The Wall Street Journal, Rinse has grown from a bootstrapped pilot serving a dozen friends to employing 600+ valets and processing thousands of orders weekly.
We built Rinse’s entire platform on Django and Python, powering everything from customer booking and subscription management to valet route optimization and cleaning partner operations across 12+ cities. The backend handles real time order tracking, QR code based bag tracking for chain of custody, multi city service zone configuration, and a robust API layer serving both the web app and native mobile apps. Django’s admin framework gives the operations team a single dashboard to manage valets, orders, and cleaning partners across every market.
On the customer side, the platform delivers a seamless booking experience where users schedule pickups in under 60 seconds with location based service detection, flexible pricing (per item dry cleaning, per bag wash and fold, Rinse Repeat subscriptions), and persistent preferences for fabric care and delivery instructions. The architecture was designed to absorb multiple competitor acquisitions (Washio, FlyCleaners, Cleanly, Dryv) without service disruption, support B2B partnerships through Rinse Go, and scale reliably to handle thousands of nightly pickups, all backed by 6,000+ customer reviews and coverage from Forbes, TechCrunch, and CNN.
